It’s been a while since we saw two internet giants at each other’s throats so the Yahoo/Facebook feud has livened up an otherwise dull few months. While we love seeing some of the biggest companies in the world resort to mud-slinging and airing their dirty laundry in public, this latest move by Yahoo is raising a few question marks. According to Yahoo, Facebook’s technology infringes on 10 patents owned by Yahoo including the news feed and commenting systems. Potentially, this is quite a serious claim for Facebook... [Read more]
Now that timeline has been implemented for profiles, it was a natural step for Facebook to offer this layout for brands and it’s well worth checking it out especially if your page is reasonably active. One of the immediate benefits is the ability to create a stronger brand presence more easily by using the main image at the top of your page. As your profile picture can remain as your logo, the additional space allows you to create a banner type image that can create an immediate visual impact to visitors. Previously... [Read more]

While users can still edit their privacy preferences, what this essentially means is that Google can tailor your online experience based on the interests you’ve shared in Google+, Gmail and Youtube. So you... [Read more]

The last week has seen a deluge of articles flooding news sites and social network talking about the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) bills currently being proposed by the House of Representatives. I wouldn’t recommend trying to read the documents unless you have some serious insomnia issues but they’re there if you want to check them out. Major brands and noted media figureheads have spoken openly either in support or condemning the bills which are designed... [Read more]

You’d have to be living in a cave to have missed the story that Google has ‘demoted’ one of its own following some less than honest online marketing tactics. It seems Chrome decided to boost the profile of the browser by hiring an external agency to produce some video content as part of a wider marketing campaign. Sounds pretty simple? Unfortunately, the agencies used methods that didn’t exactly meet Google’s usually high standards of conduct and landed them both in a bit of hot water. Although most... [Read more]
